‘Hobby’ is this week’s theme for the Photo Challenge. I could write about Netflix again, but – surprise surprise – I have more hobbies! One of them is Anti Gravity Fitness. That is the most amazing work out there is. I love hanging up side down, doing the bat, the vampire or the spiderwoman. I don’t feel a lot of love for planking with your hand on the floor and your feet up in the hammock, especially not when your trainer tricks you into doing that. But it definitely is the best hobby if you want to have fun, feel like a child and exercise at the same time.
My other hobby is water colouring. When I just moved to Gibraltar I really wanted to take art classes. The only class there was, was water colouring. I wasn’t really sure, because I had never painted with water colour before but I went anyway. And I got hooked! There are so many fantastic things about water colouring. You can use quite a few different techniques and the colours can blend so beautifully. They can also blend really ugly, but the good thing about water colour is that you can fix most things. And what I love most about water colouring is that it always turns out better than expected.
I remember the first class and one of our teachers showed us what we will do in the next few classes and I thought: ‘no way I will be able to do that’. But all of us were able to paint those paintings. I have the basic material myself and at least once a week I find myself painting at home. It is so relaxing and almost therapeutic and it is so good to have a hobby that allows you to learn and to grow. And the brilliant thing about art classes is that you can bring the result home and even hang it up on the wall. Or you can take a picture and show it off on Instagram! 🙂
PS If you want to have a nice painting on the wall, but you don’t want to make it yourself, my art teacher Deborah Lawson makes beautiful paintings. And they are for sale! Click here to check it out!
